Post offices offer several services such
as postal, financial and
insurance services. There are two kinds of post offices, ordinary and
special offices.
(1)
Domestic Postal Rates
Post cards of
standard-size: 50 yen, First-class letters of
standard-size (14 to 23.5 cm in length, 9 to 12 cm in width) 80 yen up
top 25g and 90 yen up to 50g.
(2)
International mail
There are airmail, surface mail, economy air (SAL) mail, EXM (express
mail service) and international electronic mail. Cost of postcard by
air mail is 70 yen to all over the world, and that of an air letter is
90 yen. Costs of others depend on the weight and their destination.
(3)
Oversea remittance
International postal money order is used for oversea remittance. You
can select ordinary money order or telegraphic money order. While the
former is by air mail and is less expensive, the latter is on line and
expensive.
(4)
Monetary services
When you open a post
office savings account, you should bring passport
or foreign resident registration card and seal (or sign).
